Health Carousel’s Latest Promise Shows Commitment to Nurses

$80,000 qualified nursing candidates received rejection letters in 2019, according to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, in a trend that’s still going strong today.
It’s not because they didn’t make the grade or couldn’t pay tuition. They were rejected because nursing schools struggle to staff enough nurse educators to train the next generation of nurses.
This comes at a time when the US population is aging and needs more complex care. To make matters worse, an unprecedented number of nurses are reaching retirement age. Globally, many countries are seeing a similar trend.
In honor of the Year of the Nurse Educator, Health Carousel recently announced a renewed commitment to solving this problem.
Health Carousel is committing $200K over three years to their Light the Way Program to invest in nurses who want to become nursing educators directly.
How It Works
Health Carousel just announced it’s partnering with Chamberlain University as their preferred partner to administer their new nurse educator scholarship. It is called the Light the Way scholarship.
The Light the Way initiative was founded by Health Carousel in 2004 to promote sustainable and ethical nurse recruiting. Through this program, they’ve already helped hundreds of nurses pursue advanced nursing degrees to improve patient care.
With this new commitment, they’ll tackle the nursing shortage head-on by directly increasing the number of nurse educators and thereby, the number of qualified nursing students nursing schools can accept.
Philippines Funds Aim to Increase Nurse Ph. D Rates
Health Carousel Philippines has earmarked funds for both US nurse educators and those in the Philippines.
Like the US, the Philippines is struggling with a nurse shortage. In particular, their challenge comes in the form of not having enough nurses with advanced nursing degrees — period. Advanced nursing degrees are both critical to improving patient care and training nurses who desire to advance their learning.
For this reason, in the Philippines, scholarships are set aside specifically for those who want to take advanced nursing degrees all the way to the top by getting their Nursing Ph.D.
Light the Way Program Inspired by Lady with the Lamp
Florence Nightingale is considered the founder of Modern Nursing and has been affectionately called the “Lady with the Lamp.” She went from room to room, tent to tent, tending to wounded soldiers and inspired a more compassionate approach to healthcare.
The Light the Way Program seeks to continue her work by helping those compassionate professionals who want to advance their careers and learn how to best help the patients they care for.
